CAN I GET A SMOKE DETECTOR FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT?
Elderly, disabled, and fixed income residents within the MCRFD service area are able to get a free smoke detector from the fire department.
To do so, simply call or stop by the fire department, fill out some paperwork, and some of our firefighters will come and install it for you.

MY SMOKE DETECTOR IS CHIRPING; WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Most modern smoke detectors will chirp to alert you that the batteries are low; you should replace the batteries and test the smoke detector immediately if it is chirping.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN MY SMOKE DETECTORS?
It is recommended that you change the batteries in your smoke detectors every six months.  It's easier to remember if you plan to do so whenever you reset your clocks for daylight savings time.

HOW LONG IS MY SMOKE DETECTOR VIABLE?
Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years. If you have any questions about your smoke detector, please call 843.899.2259 to speak to one of our firefighters.
